Midwest

Tactical geopolitical madness across the midwest this March 2016. Red, blue. Black, white. University of Chicago AB’64 Sanders ("A Political Life") campaigned contra Rahm Emanuel's deplorable record creating access to education, security, and justice. Sanders could have but did not cite Chicago's lead-based water risk.

Friday afternoon: St Louis. Friday night at University of Illinois - Chicago, Illinois State police grounded and arrested a credentialed CBS reporter, Sopan Deb (CBS). Physical confrontation bloodied Chicago Police. In Dayton, Ohio, Secret Service responded to Thomas Dimassimo's leap over security gates at Trump and in front of Trump's Boeing 757. Hours later, Kansas City deployed mounted police and pepper spray (KCStar). On stage, Trump hypothesized about Dimassimo links to the Islamic State. Secret Service declined knowledge (BuzzFeed).

Enter stage left. No (debatable) pun. You can see Dimassimo both feet on the rail.YouTube
Chicago put police blood on TV. The Specter of Law and Order that I thought to be 1968 may be an American monster buried longer and deeper. Salesmen like the Clintons charm the surface of this history. Trump sequenced its genome. Former spooks and political playwrights concur: the General Election provides high risk for political violence in the United States:

2010 Census Pixel Project (source). Tool beautifully illustrates colorful collage of Chicago. The degree of segregation in Chicago's racial demographics qualifies Chicago marketplaces as "hyper segregated". Different groups access different markets.

Upper Midwest / Great Lakes : Hyper Segregated Chicago and Detroit. Hyper segregation is a statistically rigorous demographic pattern (2015) that describers millions of lives and billions of interactions.

Apropos market access, the Chicago River's shamrock green is an excellent shade for Citadel HQ city. Chicago is the new online Wall Street. Important to remember that "Wall Street" is increasingly headquartered in Chicago and New Jersey. Less "Wall Street", per se.

New York Times video

Mr. Christie and Mr. Trump met over dinner at Jean-Georges, the celebrity-chef restaurant in one of Mr. Trump’s towers on the West Side of Manhattan. Mr. Christie recalled Mr. Trump’s ordering for him when the chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, came out to greet him.

January 21, 2016
In the context of Midwestern money management and political economy, how do you value goods and services from illegal businesses - like pill mills and whole heroin distributors?  How many white collar jobs depend on illegal business? In the midwest, there are many models, eg, Jalisco heroin-made-pizza delivery across Dreamland (Quinones). What do you do with all the illegal money? In a city in which guns are banned, how much margin is there is the Chicago-Indiana pistol trade (stories)? Among diverse illegal businesses and trades - drugs, money, weapons - Chicago is Sinaloa's second home. In USA's $100B illegal drugs market, Sinaloa trumps.

Friday, Clinton wrapped herself in Nancy Reagan's AIDS legacy. Saturday, she invoked Dylan Roof's massacre of Charleston churchgoers as her "model" for making America whole again. Both Clintons invoke that massacre in gun control (ad, Feb 2016) and mental health rhetoric.

The Trace story

Clinton's passive voice - "the flag came down" - denies a lot of agency to specific risk takers with names.

Clinton's healing model prioritizes trauma. And trauma response. Divide it. Make it whole. Not novel. Clinton's 1969 senior thesis on Chicago's Alinsky - full text.  Impressive if wordy NBC summary (2007). Tonight in Dem Town Hall, confronted by an innocent man condemned to death, Clinton protected the death penalty. She cited terrorism. She cited OKBOMB case of 4/19/95 during the first Clinton term. In which case, there are valid, compelling, lingering questions (20 Committee) about white supremacist collaborators that operated across Oklahoma and Arkansas.

crippling stones of the pavement, with their many little reservoirs of mud and water, had no footways, but broke off abruptly at the doors. The kennel, to make amends, ran down the middle of the street—when it ran at all: which was only after heavy rains, and then it ran, by many eccentric fits, into the houses. Across the streets, at wide intervals, one clumsy lamp was slung by a rope and pulley; at night, when the lamplighter had let these down, and lighted, and hoisted them again, a feeble grove of dim wicks swung in a sickly manner overhead, as if they were at sea. Indeed they were at sea, and the ship and crew were in peril of tempest.

Inextricable and Mutual Sadness

Measured by % of the overall population, black men in the US are most disproportionately victims of fatal police violence; black women are also disproportionately killed. Whereas police kill Hispanics "equitably", only non-Hispanic white and Asian men, and women, are killed less than their share of the general population. In Asians’ case, much much less. That inequitable pattern is amplified in California. In California, Asians make up 15% of the population and less than 4% of police killings, a proportionality gap 3x more favorable than the gap for non-Hispanic whites. By comparison, black Californians are 6.5% of the state population and 16% of police homicides: an inequality 38% worse than the already inequitable national benchmark. That data led to basic factual and analytical errors, including among high-profile California officials. Those errors also revealed the best and brightest's basic ignorance of #BlackLivesMatter most important messages. Take future CA gove

LEAP Nomination

I recommend Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) because they work on the root cause of the most pressing health, security, and civil rights subject in the United States: the war on drugs. Recent CDC data shows that heroin use now qualifies as an epidemic. The Center attributes the heroin boom to the prescription opioid boom of the last 20 years. The drug war approach disables the most vulnerable from finding help. Prohibition's emphasis on arrest yields an exceptional imbalance: the US has 5% of the world's people, but 25% of its prisoners. Incarceration does not rehabilitate offenders. Quite the opposite. Data clearly shows that the incarcerated are at higher risk for re-admission - and that their families, especially their children, experience higher risk for incarceration. That dynamic is a clear and present national security risk, including to California. Just this last weekend, in Chicago, more than 50 people were shot. For the second straight weekend.

Operation Anvil

Latest homicide map is linked here . Overall goal: explain why the Americas have such low rates of successfully prosecuted murder compared to EU and APAC . And why - as murder rates declining - are solved murder rates declining in the United States? For a quick summary of the state of homicide within the United States: http://gritsforbreakfast.blogspot.com/2010/06/homicide-clearance-rates-on-decline.html http://anepigone.blogspot.com/2013/01/rates-of-unsolved-murder-by-state.html To start: where are the murders? Latest homicide map is linked here . Next, I want to map stories to these cities. Later, add more data sources (eg, unsolved murder data).
